Bike Tour – Katahdin Views
The 33-mile loop is very scenic and challenging with mountain views—including Mt. Katahdin, the state’s highest peak—and picturesque farms. The north Maine woods and Mt. Katahdin provide the dramatic backdrop for the extremely challenging 46-mile loop. This loop takes cyclists through woods, open farmland, small lumbering communities, and over hills that heave the roads from ridge to ridge—hills that make this ride memorable.

Katahdin Air Services
Katahdin Air Service is located on Ambejejus Lake and offers daily scenic plane rides of the Katahdin Area. Katahdin Air offers short 30-minute scenic flights, one-hour scenic flights as well as 3-hour flights that take you to a remote sporting camp for dinner and then a sunset flight back to their seaplane base.

Matagamon Guide Services
Don Dudley of Matagamon was recognized by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as a Legendary Maine Guide. Matagamon Guide Service is located in northern Penobscot County, west of Patten. They hunt Penobscot, Piscataquis and southern Aroostook counties and specialize in trophy deer, bear and moose hunts.
Patten Lumbermen’s Museum
The Patten Lumbermen’s Museum invites visitors to learn all about Maine logging history, including the use of bateaux on waterways to transport supplies, the stories of the fearless river drivers, what life was like inside a remote logging camp, and even the role of bean hole beans.

Patten Historical Society
Located in downtown Patten near the Memorial Veteran Library, the Patten Historical Society offers a great overview of the history of the area. The museum is filled with donated artifacts and photographs. Seasonal. If closed during the season, go to the Library just up the street and someone will open it for you.

Welcome to the Katahdin Woods and Water Scenic Byway!
The Katahdin Woods & Waters Scenic Byway is 89 miles long and offers breathtaking views of Katahdin and the Appalachian chain, and provides a mix of pastoral farms, meadows, recreational trails, and working forests filled with wildlife and significant natural areas. Dominating that landscape is Katahdin, Maine’s tallest mountain at 5,268 feet and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The Byway begins at the southern entrance of Baxter State Park and winds its way through Millinocket along Route 11 and the Penobscot River to Patten, ending at Baxter’s northern entrance at Grand Lake Matagamon.
